Weekend update

Another weekend come and gone. I hope everyone had a good one! Friday night Matt and I made like hermits with a pizza-and-a-movie night. Then we slept like 12 hours and finally felt refreshed Saturday morning after a week of sleep deprivation. We had lunch with Lauren G. at her open house and walked around making complimentary comments about the house when real prospective buyers were there.

After that we came home, did a little yardwork, etc., before going to a cookout with the most random assortment of fun people. We had a fantastic time.

One of my favorite parts of the party was really just a sideshow. These neighborhood kids were decked out in scuba gear (flippers, mask, etc.) and spied on us for hours. We were outside most of the night and they kept rushing from behind the neighbors' houses and sliding basically into our yard, maybe 30 feet from us, but they thought, or at least pretended, we couldn't see them. They were probably about 11 or 12 and it seemed like something I'd have wanted to do when I was that age. I always loved "Harriet the Spy." I would have stayed in the shadows, though.

Other people probably have some great pictures. I only took a few and they were all within one 10-minute period:

I love this guy, and not just because his homemade strawberry ice cream was the bomb-diggety.

Lauren and I gave an impromptu Turbo Kick demonstration.

Yes, it was that funny. I'd love to know how many calories we burned laughing last night. I used to know some stat ... laughing burns calories at the same rate as rowing a boat, or something like that.

This morning after church we had to show a house, ate a late lunch and then went to the office to sign a contract on one of the new constructions -- great news. Then I went to Joy's so she could sign the contract on her new condo -- also great news. While at her house I picked some gardenias for our kitchen table and they smell delish.

When I got home I started working on the chair I'm going to decoupage for No. 99 on my list. I painted it black and started decoupaging the seat (which is all I'm going to do) but had to quit when it got dark (I was on the porch). So far it looks OK, not as good as I hoped, but I'll wait on the finished product before deciding what I think.

Speaking of the list, I've decided I'm going to have to join one of Matt's fantasty-football leagues this fall if there's any hope of checking off No. 28 -- "learn to really understand (and like?) football." So far he's more excited about it than I am (he plans for me to cheer for the Panthers and feel warm and fuzzy about Steve Smith) but when my money's on the line my own enthusiasm can't be far behind.

By the way, I'm about a third of the way through my list! It feels so good to check off things. Unfortunately, most of the gimmes are already done.

I've completed almost half of the things on my list, but... yeah. The ones that are left tend to be more challenging!
