Stuck truck diversion

Our office is in downtown. Railroad tracks run through downtown, dividing the east and west sides. Tractor-trailers aren't supposed to go across the railroad tracks. Still, sometimes they try. And sometimes when they try they get stuck. Yesterday one got stuck just as the afternoon train was coming through. Chaos!

I took a picture. Click on it for the full effect -- it's pretty funny. Note the bright yellow warning sign and the position of the railroad-crossing arms (what do you call those things?). That was one stuck truck.

Your picture's composition is classic. In the 1960's LIFE magazine always had pictures like this on their last page. It was called "Miscellany" and it was the first thing I turned to. I love it!

Can you say IDIOT? I certainly don't miss having to cross the tracks in SP, all that yeilding for track traffic always made me nervous.

This story doesn't answer my questions. What happened with the train?? Did it stop before smushing the truck!? I bet the driver got an earful from someone that afternoon!!

The answers to your questions kill the drama. We were expecting a collision, or at the very least a near-collision, but apparently the train got the message that the track was otherwise occupied. I don't know if it was diverted or just delayed or what. The truck was on the track for quite a while, and then I had to leave the office and it was still there, so I don't really know how it ended.
