... the long-awaited, much-anticipated, heart-captivating Claire Devon Kirby!
It's still surreal, but as I write this, Claire is sitting by my side.
She was born July 2 at 3:46 a.m., weighing 7 pounds 9 ounces and measuring an impressive 21 3/4 inches long. She has Matt's great facial features and a long, lean Loyd body; a head full of the kind of hair I always dreamed of; freakishly large hands and feet; and beautiful skin, even if it does have a yellowish tint at the moment.
She's extraordinarily expressive, more alert every day, and seems to have such a sweet, good-natured temperament. She took to nursing like a champ and, while it's hard to detect a pattern from five days, shows signs of being a good sleeper (her days and nights are a little confused, but we're working on that).
We are incredibly thankful for a deep and wide support network of family and friends who fill our fridge or just show up with Bojangles, who leave encouraging messages and repeatedly promise us a day is coming when we'll all sleep through the night, who clamor over who gets to hold Claire next even when she reeks. And I can't begin to adequately articulate what a rock Matt has been, in every way.
Cliche or not, the ordeal of labor was nothing compared to the reward. Welcome, baby girl!
