Last-ditch effort

This is kind of funny. I just found out that tomorrow morning I have to give a very brief talk to the Southern Pines library staff on behalf of the local United Way. I'm planning to stick around afterward and see if I can make any headway on the library-card issue in person ... which I doubt. They have that town ordinance to fall back on. Still, wish me luck!

maybe you oughtta take $75 with you to pay the "out-of-town" library card rate...they are militant about the rules!

This isn't just a little funny-- it's hilarious! Be sure to tell them some of the United Way funds may help someone who doesn't live within the boundaries of Southern Pines. Are they saying that $75 is the proportion that So. Pines residents give from their taxes toward supporting the library? I'm a little doubtful about that.

...so, how'd it go?

No luck. I guess it's back to a)trying to change a town ordinance or b) going the community-college route. The more people I tell about this, the more I hear SPPL has a reputation for being sticklers about the rules.
