Days of my life

What is better than a weekend?

FRIDAY
8:30 p.m. After running and going to First Friday with Kate et al. we showered, ate a quick late dinner and went over to Lauren and Paul's to hang out. They are in the middle of major renovations to their new house but were gracious enough to host us despite the work in progress. We went inside only for drink refills anyway.

It was my favorite kind of night -- sitting outside until the wee hours with great weather, great friends, great conversation and frequent laughter. Their friend Alicia is in town from Florida for the week and it was fun to watch her and Lauren gang up on Paul.

SATURDAY
7:30 a.m. I had to get up early for a 5K run. It was the first 5K I had raced since high school and Kate and I rocked our age group with first and second place, hooray for us!

I was really happy to run into a lot of people I hadn't seen for a while, including one of my all-time heroes, Coach Moody. He has been teaching elementary school for 30+ years and running for longer than that. He's a fixture in the local running scene; he told me yesterday that he's logged about 110,000 miles since he started tracking his mileage. Pretty phenomenal.

Noon. After the awards ceremony we went to Christy's grandmother's pool. It was awfully relaxing if not sunny. We grilled shrimp, chicken and veggie kabobs, perfected our bocce technique, gave four-wheeling lessons to the non-natives, and photo-opped with baby London. I didn't have my camera but if anyone sends me pictures I'll post them here.

4 p.m. When it started to sprinkle we all went home to rest and regroup, then some of us went to see "Knocked Up," which was a little crude but very funny. The energetic spring chicks went out after the movie but Matt and I came home and crashed.

SUNDAY
4:48 a.m. Sallie and Stephen welcomed their daughter, Sadie Lyn, to the world after 25 hours (!) of labor. This didn't involve me but I do want to say congratulations!

6:15 a.m. I ran with Katie, whom I have hardly seen, not to mention run with, for a couple of months. During marathon training we did our long runs together every Sunday before church. She filled me in on her life and what an update that was! Katie deserves every good thing that comes her way.

8:15 a.m. Nursery duty at early church, Panera with Matt between services, late church together, then lunch at Mom's. While there I plugged my name into an anagram program Dad was playing with for his class. Result: "an inbred fiery jerk."
