Elizabeth Anne Loyd

I'm starting to get behind on blogging again -- I have to write about last week's fun (vicarious) shopping trip and our great Valentine's weekend but I don't think I'm going to get caught up this week.

My Grandma Loyd died yesterday morning at the age of 88 (click here for some background, via Dad, who's more eloquent than I am) so tomorrow we're heading to Atlanta for the viewing and, on Wednesday, the funeral.

I really can't believe I made it to age 29 with all four of my grandparents not only alive but thriving. All of Matt's were alive, too, until his Papa died a few years ago. We love all of our grandparents so much and are so thankful for all these years we've had with them.

-------------------------------

Mrs. Anne Loyd, 88, of Brookhaven, GA, died in her sleep on the morning of February 15, 2009. Elizabeth Anne Black was born on May 6, 1920, in Cartersville, GA. Following graduation from high school there, Anne held clerical jobs in the area until World War II, when she moved to Atlanta to work for the Army War Department.

After the war, she returned to Cartersville where she worked until she married Marvin Loyd of Chamblee, GA, in 1948. They had met at a YWCA dance in December of 1946, and it was love at first dance. They lived in the Brookhaven area for the next 60 years. As a member of Chamblee First United Methodist Church, Anne worked in the Sunday School nursery for many years before becoming active in the Forum Class.

The love and work of her life were her husband, children, and her cherished sisters, brother, and their families. Survivors include her husband Marvin Loyd; son, Ellis Loyd of Decatur, GA; son, Ken Loyd and his wife Judy of West End, NC; daughter, Caryn Cole and her husband Steve of LaGrange, GA; sister, Elsie Melton and her husband Joe of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Clara Black of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Jennifer Kirby of Pinehurst, NC; Amanda Talbert of Pinebluff, NC; Brantley Cole and Lindsey Cole of LaGrange, GA.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson and Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Royeese Stowe and Rev. Jordan Thrasher officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Chamblee. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home as well as the day of the service beginning at 12:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Chamblee First United Methodist Church, 4147 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd., Chamblee, GA 30341.
