A case of the Mondays

This morning I got to work, turned on my computer, flipped the page in my weekly planner and freaked out -- a 1,500-word article on Tornado Alley is due tomorrow. How in the world did the 15th of the month get here so fast? I'm not always great about checking my planner and it's entirely possible that I could have not noticed the deadline for a few more days, so I'm glad I did.

Happily, the approaching midway point of the month means we're halfway to Feb. 1, at which time I can start drinking sodas (that's for you, Kaitlin) again. I'm going to give myself an easy February resolution. This one has been painful. Every morning at work Stephen sits at his desk right beside me and opens an ice-cold Coke and my heart sinks a little bit because I can't have one of my own.

Our weekend was pretty low-key, which is how we like them. We finally picked up our bed from Pier 1 (thanks to Mom for the use of her truck) and started setting it up only to find that our bed frame stops about a foot short of the mattress, so there's no way to attach it to the footboard.

I'm not sure whether we need to buy a special-length frame for the bed or what. The frame on our bed is identical to the frame on our other queen bed, so we couldn't just switch them out. We attached the headboard but the footboard is leaning against a wall until Matt figures something out. It probably will involve rope and/or duct tape.

Friday night we went on a date and Saturday night we had dinner with Matt's family. Matt and I made a feeble attempt at going out with everyone else afterward, but the bar was standing-room-only because of a football game so we bailed and went home. The next morning I woke up feeling sick so we didn't go to church, but I was fine by lunchtime so Kaitlin and Amanda came over for a couple of hours.

Later in the afternoon Matt's grandparents came over too since they hadn't seen the house since it was finished, and after that we went to Drew's ordination at church. We ordered pizza for the Duke game and I tried to root for Virginia so I could care at least a little about the game, but it didn't work.
