A letter to my 17-year-old self

Dear Jennifer,

I like you, and I'm going to like you more the older you get. You have some quirks, but they're part of your charm.

I want to offer you a few hints that might make the next decade a little easier for you.

First, you're not a good driver, so be extra careful. Come to complete stops at stop signs, or one day you might come this close to hitting a state trooper. Also, remember to drive around ditches, not through them. You'll thank me next New Year's Eve.

Go see a podiatrist about the pain in your right foot. The big toe is broken and if left untreated will make you run funny indefinitely.

Splurge now on one pair of expensive jeans that flatter your body, make you feel great and are actually long enough. You'll wear them for years and get your money's worth over and over.

Congratulations on getting into UNC! You're about to enjoy four of the best years of your life. Stick with club tennis, and study abroad the summer after your freshman year. Also, I know you think astronomy sounds interesting, but it's over your head. Drop that class while you can still get a full refund on the textbook.

Pink is your color. Keep your old notes and letters. You're a better dancer but a worse singer than you think. Beer before liquor, never sicker. Cosmo is full of crap.

Your hometown is not a bad place to live. Matt is a great catch. You are too.

Your life won't unfold exactly as you expect, and that's a good thing. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Love,

Me/you

P.S. Enjoy living with a cat, because you never will again.

I love it. When I was a sophomore in high school my English teacher had us write letters to ourselves and she said she'd mail them to us in 10 years. So I should get mine about 2010.

You can send yourself a FUTURE letter (not a past, unfortunately) by going to http://www.futureme.org/

I may write a post about this sometime today, as I have used futureme in the past. I love this post! And I love you!
